"What to the Slave is 4th of July?": James Earl Jones Reads Frederick Do...

In  this Nation's divide lies a chaotic balance.
But sorrowfully,  in one form or another,  a stark  hypocrisy remains.
Though the site that provided this speech, .. ( performed by that master orator James Earl Jones),  is an obvious manifesto of liberal ideals,  Fredrick Douglas's speech is in many ways  metaphorically attached to the the practice of enslavement...which IS... the liberal ideal.  The last line of this speech can be used to describe the potential for a burgeoning revolution !.... one that is capable of re- igniting the American spirit which was once daring and tenacious enough to fan the flames around the  heated gases within our human souls!

"  for it is not light that is needed,..but fire!  It is not the gentle shower,..but thunder!  We need the storm! The whirlwind! The earthquake! The feeling of the Nation must be quickened..   The conscience of the Nation must be aroused!  The propriety of the Nation,  must be startled.  The hypocrisy of the Nation,..must be exposed! And the crimes against God and man..must be proclaimed..and denounced!  "  - Fredrick Douglass
